Amidst Corona’s concerns, the BCCI has successfully hosted the 2020 IPL in the United Arab Emirates. After the success of IPL in UAE, this time the board has started thinking a new table about the league. In IPL 2021, there is a strong possibility of a 10-team tournament in the IPL.
The news has been circulating in Indian cricket for several days now. However, the new general team of the IPL may be sealed at the annual general meeting of the board on December 24.
A franchise team from Ahmedabad is kind of sure. Besides, Adani Group and Sanjeev Goenka’s RPG Group have expressed interest in acquiring new franchises in the IPL. New teams may come from Maharashtra or Pune.
In which format will the 10-team IPL?
So far in the eight-team IPL, two-legged matches have been played in a round-robin league system. Each team played 14 matches in the league. Then the first four teams in the points table would play in the playoffs.
This time 10 teams will be divided into two groups of five each. All teams will play 14 match in the league table. Once with the other four teams in the group and twice with the other five teams in the other group (on a home and away basis). Although this format is quite complex but it will save time for the board.
