New Delhi: Of the nearly 30 coronavirus vaccines in the country in the race for recognition,3 are at an advanced stage of clinical trials, and 4 are at an earlier stage of pre-clinical trials.
Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan said. He said a high-level expert group was looking into the distribution and vaccination of vaccines.
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Friday, Harshvardhan said the pharmaceutical industry and researchers were working on the development of about 30 vaccines at the national level.
They are at different stages of pre-clinical and clinical progression. There are 3 in the 1st or 2nd or 3rd stage. 4 are at the advanced stage of pre-clinical progression.
The distribution and vaccination of the coronavirus vaccine depends on how much is available. He added that once the coronavirus vaccine is ready, it will be distributed according to the current routine under the Universal Immunization Program.
He said the Department of Biotechnology has set up 5 Covid-19 biopositories at the national level. So far, 44,452 clinical samples and 17 virus isolates have been collected, which could be used by researchers and the pharmaceutical industry, he said.
