Cricket is something that even someone from a remote village area knows about. Although it isn’t the national game of India, cricket is played almost everywhere. A small boy may not know who our prime minister is, but he would definitely know the name of Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli. It’s a game with feelings and emotions far beyond anything. The desperation to win, the swings of a bat decides the fate of an entire nation. Unfortunately, we have missed so many cricket moments since last year. As the pandemic took a toll on the entire world, the bat and the ball were put away. But, it doesn’t mean that we would let this virus win. It doesn’t mean that we won’t normalise everything again. And yes we are in the process of normalising everything.
This is because international cricket is going to happen now. India would now be playing against Sri Lanka in the ODI series and everything has been announced as to where it would be played, who would play, what the match would be, the names of the captains, debuts that would happen in international cricket from India and much more. Stay tuned to find out as we have all our sources at work! India vs Sri Lanka ODI, T20 Series 2021 is going to happen and cricket fans are already buzzed about the match that is going to happen. Here, let’s discuss the schedule, squad, timetable, live streaming details. As for the match itself, there are a number of things that are going to be happening this time. The first thing that is being tossed around in this tournament is that the legend – Rahul Dravid has announced that there would be many players who would make their international debuts this year.
This means that we would see a variety of new faces in the Indian cricket team as it has been reshuffled. Another thing that you might be wondering about the news is why there has been a change. If you are someone who has been following the news for the past few days, you must have known that the ODI and the T20 series was expected to happen on 13th July. But, due to the covid conundrum, there has been a change and the dates have been shifted 5 more days ahead. There is a rise in covid cases in Sri Lanka and this was the only reason for the shift. Now it would be happening on the 18th of July and not just the dates, but even the timing has been changed. The prior time which was announced was said to happen between 1:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
This has been changed to the 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM slot. You might notice that there is a bit of a shift between the amount of time too. The list of ODIs and the many T20s that would be played has already been released by the SLC, which is the Sri Lankan Cricket association as to when and where it would happen. As to why this happened, there has been a number of covid cases in the cricket community too. Two members of the Sri Lankan cricket team tested positive for covid and one of them was the famous batting coach – Grant Flower. Now, this is a very serious issue for the Sri Lankan cricket team. Actually, this happened just after they returned from England where the entire squad had 7 cases. This is a very pressing concern. The squad was immediately quarantined and the Sri Lankan cricket team returned.
This is the exact reason as to why the series was postponed. The Sri Lankan cricket association and the Board of Control for Cricket in India had a unanimous decision to postpone the series as it could affect Indian players too. The Sri Lankan cricket association then announced the change, date and location as to how it would be played and the number of matches that would happen on Twitter. Indian fans poured over comments cheering India and stating that the Indian cricket team would have a sure win in the upcoming games in the comment section of the post. The schedule and the timetable is given below. As for the schedule and the timetable of the game, let us make you understand in words as to what has been confirmed. There are three matches that would be played in the 3 PM slot that would start from the 18th of July.
The 1st match or the 1st ODI would be held in Colombo. The 2nd match also of the same slot would be held on the 20th of July. It would be in the same exact location. The third match, also from the same location, would be played in the same 3 PM slot on the 23rd of July. This was for the ODI series. As for the T20 series that would also happen just a few days after the match, it would also start. The first match is to be held in Colombo on the 25th of July, in the 8 PM time slot. This means that there would be just one day gap between the ODIs and the T20s. The second match would be held on the 27th of July, consecutively in the same place and in the same time slot. The third match would also be held in the same place and the same time slot on the 29th of July. As for the Indian team, a lot can be said about the squad and the captain.
There have been many rumours that were started that the Indian team would have the oldest captain there is, in the entire history of ODIs played by the Indian cricket team. Since the Board of Control for Cricket in India or the BCCI has released the squad as to who would play in the team, the rumours have fallen to be exactly true. The Indian cricket team would have Shikhar Dhawan as the captain. This would make Shikhar Dhawan the oldest captain in the ODIs ever to play against an international team. We would discuss the squad details later. This is something that is far more exciting because, in one of the statements released from the team, it has been stated that age is just a number. Another statement that has been said of what can be called an overstatement is that even if India wins 6-0 in the match, it won’t make any difference in the spit that the southpaw has.
Is this arrogance? Or are we too confident? Dhawan is said to lead the men in blue and he would be playing his 143rd ODI wearing the same jersey. This is another exceptional thing that can be said about the captain that he has far more experience than other players. Maybe this is why he was chosen to be on the team. Our test captain, Virat Kohli has always been a staunch supporter of the southpaw and they both have a good bonding. As for the test team which is present in England currently, has also praised the team by saying that the team is beautifully and carefully selected. A cricket strategist and player has also said that this team is designed so beautifully that it can be said that this is an IPL Super XI.
As for the team squad, they are as follows:- Shikhar Dhawan (As the Captain), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (As the Vice-captain), Ishan Kishan (Wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (Wicket-keeper), Prithvi Shaw, Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Rana, Yuzvendra Chahal, Rahul Chahar, K Gowtham, Krunal Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini, Chetan Sakariya. So this is the team that would be playing against Sri Lanka. If we analyse the team correctly, we have a number of good players and some of the players who aren’t in their form as of now. This makes the team pretty balanced and has a strong uphold on the ground. Balling is what makes a team more stronger than having a good batsman, although both are equally needed on the field.
We have some experienced net bowlers such as Ishan Porel, Sandeep Warrier, Arshdeep Singh, Sai Kishore and Simarjeet Singh. Now that you have noted the men in blue, isn’t it just as it was described? It is indeed a powerful team and is well balanced. As for the Sri Lankan cricket team, there have been no notifications about where the squad is or who would be playing in the game. The squad details haven’t been released yet. Although fans have poured their concerns on Twitter asking the SLA about the same, there hasn’t been any response from them. This means that either they are still planning for the same or they would release at the last moment. This is a kind of strategy in itself. For those who are worried about where they can watch the game, the game would be completely live on Sony LIV, Sony TEN 2 and Sony TEN 2 HD.
