Olympic-Bound Athletes Will be Given Priority for Covid-19 Vaccine – Said Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju

Indian Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju this Sunday announced that priority will be given first vaccine for Indian Olympic athletes

The Tokyo Olympics, which were postponed to 2020, are set to be held again in 2021. The 2021 Tokyo Olympics will run from July 23 to August 8. India is set to take part in the Olympics, which has been postponed due to the virus. According to Indian Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, India has decided to send more than 100 athletes to the Tokyo Olympics previous year. One of the challenges now in the pandemic situation of compassion is to provide maximum hygiene protection to the athletes. In this context, Indian Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju this Sunday announced the registration of the first vaccine for Indian Olympic athletes along with front lines workers. Kiren Rijiju says India’s suspended Tokyo Olympics is expected to send the biggest ever team in cricket. And if Covid 19 vaccine is available in India, Olympic athletes and support workers will be given priority.

Indian Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said “Whether it is Tokyo Olympics or any big event happening, the preference will be given to Olympic-bound athletes as well as the (support) staff because it is time-bound,” In a ceremony about Airtel Delhi Half Marathon in Delhi.

Sports Minister also said “Olympic qualification matches are going to happen. So, I want more sporting events to take place now, of course, while following all safety measures. I have already told National Sports Federations and the IOA to chalk out plans for different national and international events in India. And we are giving full support.

“I think this lockdown period is over, we are starting with sporting activities. Delhi Half Marathon has become a very important international event. And support is coming from Delhi government and from sports ministry; we are fully backing this event, and any other sporting event,”

Sports minister said that the quarantine rule will be relaxed for upcoming international event in India.

“Even some of the international events which are going to happen in India, we are going to relax the quarantine period, but following the norms and without breaking the rules. We are going to provide more facilities.

“If international players are quarantined for 14 days, it becomes difficult for the organizers to organize the events. Nobody will come if you are going to put the athletes for 14 days in India. So we have to manage these things so that we can support international athletes who are coming to India as well as our own players,” Kiren Rijiju added.

Sports minister another thanks to Airtel Delhi Half Marathon organization for successfully organize and performed complete events with maintaining all the Covid19 safety protocol.

“World champions, world record holders have taken part and top international runners are here. Indian record was also broken by Avinash Sable and his other colleagues have performed very well.” Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said.
