BERLIN: Europe will be accepting new astronauts for the first time in 11 years as the world’s leading astronomers turn their gaze to the moon and finally to Mars.
The European Space Agency (ESA) intends to add 26 permanent and reserve astronauts. She strongly encourages women to apply and how to include her disabled on her list to promote diversity among employees.
But he warned at a news conference on Tuesday that landing in one of the waiting areas was not easy.
“First and foremost, ESA expects an” enormous number “of applications for its eight-week recruitment drive starting March 31,” said Luke van der Tas, head of ESA’s talent acquisition department.
Second, those who apply will go through a rigorous six-phase selection process that runs through October 2022.
“Candidates need to be mentally prepared for the process,” Van Der Tas said.
Italian astronaut Samantha Christoforetti said technology adaptation, which allows humans to be in space, could create opportunities for people with disabilities.
“When it comes to space travel, we are all disabled,” Christoforetti added.
Human spaceflight seems to be preparing for a resurgence.
In the years since astronauts were the only space launchers in the Kazakhstani desert, cooperation with private companies such as SpaceX has raised the prospect of more human missions.
The requirements for astronauts at ESA include a master’s degree in natural sciences, engineering, mathematics, or computer science, and a three-year postgraduate experience.
“I think it’s a good opportunity … it’s going to be an opportunity to learn a lot about yourself,” Christoforetti said. Reuters
